A Word of Appreciation

In what now feels a lifetime ago, in 1992 I left a career as an economist for a Swiss bank in Tokyo to find a more interesting life for myself. A series of unusual coincidences saw me land in Boulder, Colorado, in the Spring of 1993, and that autumn with a good Japanese friend I began the Boulder Wave business. Originally focused purely on assisting world-class athletes with their altitude training, I began also representing athletes from the end of 1997, thanks to a fortuitous call from the London Marathon's Dave Bedford.

The years since have been beyond anything I could have expected. It has been my joy to have supported training camps for thousands of athletes and coaches, primarily in my adopted hometown of Boulder, but also in various locations around the world. And it has been an honor and a privilege to represent all the athletes who entrusted me with their careers by hiring me to be their agent. That goes for every athlete and coach, whether they were striving for an Olympic medal or their next PB. There was an atmosphere of excitement every time a starter's pistol went off!

After 32 years, I have decided at the end of 2025 it is time to close the Boulder Wave business and go into retirement. It's been an adventure that has taken me around the world and brought me in contact with countless athletes, coaches, race and meet directors, agents, media personnel, shoe company representatives, physical therapists, cooks, race volunteers, and the vast support system involved in our sport. All I can say is “thank you” for the countless displays of kindness, friendship, and generosity I received from everybody throughout these three decades.
