New 800m PB for Sara Vaughn at USATF Championships

June 30, 2009

In this weekend's US championships, Sara Vaughn posted yet another 800m PB with a strong 2:04.60 in the meet's first round. Fighting off some pre-race butterflies, Sara ran a smart, confident race to come through to the semi-finals.

In Friday's semifinals, she had yet another strong race. Over the final 150m, she moved up to 4th and appeared certain to have made it through to the finals. Unfortunately, in the final stride, Brenda Martinez caught and passed Sara to take 4th place by the slimmest of margins, 2:04.85 vs. 2:04.87. A tough pill to swallow, but Sara came away feeling she has another couple of seconds in her in the 800m, and the big 800m improvement this season bodes well for her 1500m potential. Sara's next race will be the 1500m in Kortrijk, Belgium, on July 11th.
